  2. 1/4 cup red kidney beans
  3. 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  4. 1/2 tbsp ginger paste
  5. 1/2 tbsp garlic paste

  7. 1 tbsp butter
  8. 1/2 tbsp cream
  9. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  10. 2-3 tsp Kashmiri mirch powder
  11. 1 tsp garam masala
  12. 1 tsp kasuri methi powder
  13. to taste Salt
  14. 1-2 tbsp oil
  15. 5-6 garlic cloves for tadka

Instructions to make to make Dal Makhani

  1. Take whole black gram and kidney beans in a large bowl wash it thoroughly 2 to 3 times under running water, and soak it for over night or for 6 to 7 hours.
  2. After 6 to 7 hours take the soked dal in a pressure cooker along with 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt and cook for 7 to 8 whistles on medium flame. Let all the pressure out naturally.
  3. Take a pan,heat oil on medium flame add onion, garlic and ginger paste and saute for few minutes then add turmeric and Kashmiri mirch powder and cook it for 5 minutes or till oil releases from side.
  4. Now make a cup of tomato puree by grinding the chopped tomatoes in a blender. Put the tomato puree into ginger garlic paste and cook till tomato puree cook properly.
  5. When the masala cooks and release a sweet aroma add the pre cooked dal into it mix well add 3 cups of water, cover and cook on low flame for 60minutes. Stir in between to prevent the curry from sticking.
  6. After 60 minutes add garam masala powder and kasurimethi in curry mix well, check the thickness and adjust thickness by adding some water if required. cook for more 5 minutes.
  7. Now add butter and cream into it and cook for 3 to 4 minutes more.
  8. Dal makhani is almost ready. You can serve it like this or seasoned it with garlic. For this take a tadka pan heat 1 tsp oil and saute garlic in it and put this tadka on dal makhani.
  9. Now it's time to give some smoky flavour to dal makhani. Place a burning charcoal on top of dal makhani in a pot, add little ghee on it when it starts smoking cover the pan with a lid and be like this for 1 to 2 minutes. This smoky flavour gives the curry a unique and authentic taste.
  10. Garnish dal makhani with some creamy and butter and serve this hot with naan, roti, phulka or rice.
